Rare Collection of Fairground Knockdown Hand Carved Figures

A unique collection of 22 hand carved folk-art fairground (Jeu De Massacre) figures. This rare to market collection consists of an entire fairground stall collection and contains several forms of characters from soldiers to country house ladies with straw bags, and so on. Each with its cast metal hinge plate still in place. Naively hand carved and painted with the backs hollowed out as shown. We have never seen the like in such a vast quantity. A real museum collection.

These items show natural wear and aging through obvious use over the years. Surfaces are worn with aged paint flaking and lack of detail as shown. The metal sections are rusted and some have weathered and decayed wooden areas to the reverse of the figures. All stand alone and firm in form, as have been uncovered in a private fairground collection in Paris earlier this month.
